About Abigail Mettry – Music Teacher Resources

Hi, I’m Abigail—a classically trained pianist, educator, and composer. I’m passionate about helping music teachers make their classrooms creative, engaging, and fun!

My background blends both sides of the music world: performing and composing at a professional level, and creating meaningful, approachable music education experiences for kids.

I’ve taught everything from private piano lessons to full elementary general music classrooms. I’ve also worked as adjunct piano faculty at Belmont University School of Music, and developed curriculum for students from kindergarten through college. Along the way, I earned my Kodály certification (levels I & II) and a K–12 music teaching license. I love to combine structured music pedagogy with the creativity of performance and composition.

As a composer, my music has been featured on Netflix, CBS, FOX, Paramount+, Freeform, Amazon Studios, and more. I love bringing that real-world musical experience into the resources I create for teachers like you.

Early Life

Music has been a part of my life for almost as long as I can remember. I grew up in Kendallville, Indiana, and started playing piano at age five on a plastic toy organ. My parents heard familiar Christmas songs coming from my room and couldn’t figure out where they were coming from! Soon after, we got an acoustic piano and I began I formal piano study with Judith Petersen. She happened to be a Julliard School of Music graduate, which was amazing given the small size of our town.

I later earned a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance, followed by a Master’s degree with High Distinction from the Toradze Piano Studio at Indiana University-South Bend. While there, I taught college-level piano and studied under renowned concert pianists Ketevan Badridze and Alexander Toradze. After graduate school, I moved to Nashville and taught piano at Belmont University and Belmont Academy while diving into songwriting and production. I also completed 30 extra graduate hours in music education to complement my performance degree.

Fast forward to today, I live in Colorado with my husband, our two boys, and a rather wild dog Chewie. I continue to compose music and create downloadable teaching resources designed to support busy music educators. I love to create materials that are engaging, sequential, and fun for kids!
